Various U.S. state governments have passed or are contemplating mandatory drug testing for welfare-like benefit recipients under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. On the surface, this policy may have some logic and appeal. To receive taxpayer funded benefits, recipients would be required to prove that they are free of illegal drugs in their bodies. This drug free state will provide some comfort to taxpayers that their valuable resources are not redirected to fund illegal drug habits for others. Once you’re past this obvious benefit, explore what impacts it really imposes.

(1) It must be determined what bodily fluid testing methods that could be required- urine, saliva, blood, breath analysis, etc. Then, who will determine which test procedure will ultimately be administered, recipients or the government?

(2) What does government do with those innocent, unemployed citizens who refuse all testing? Does government watch its citizens become hungry and homeless on the sidewalks or does it force DNA extraction in order to provide life-giving sustenance? Trust me, there will be some who will refuse testing due to constitutional, moral, privacy and other reasons.

(3) Will government remove essential resources from families with parents who consistently fail the drug test? The most likely end result for some will be removing children from their parents by CPS Child Protective Services and other similar agencies. These responses imposed are most likely currently unanticipated by community members.

(4) Resourced and politically influential entities could intentionally institute policies over years or decades that increase the benefits recipient pool and therefore increase the pool of mandatory drug-tested citizens. It will be unfathomable to the average citizen that their government would do such a thing. Nevertheless, history continues to repeat regarding how governments exceed their authority against the people.

(5) One cannot dismiss the fact that once your genetic material is received by a government entity, you have absolutely no control over its ultimate disposition. Although intended for a simple drug test, it could be used for unauthorized DNA analysis or long-term storage for any purpose in the future.

(6) If this is not enough reasons to give you pause, then consider the degradation of giving your bodily fluids in exchange for life-giving sustenance. It appears as an imbalanced tradeoff against the citizens. Coupled with the further psyche degradation that you would most likely wait in line with other recipients for such testing, then you understand that you are giving up much more than what you are getting. For this reason, some will choose homelessness, street-begging or even crime to preserve their immediate physical and psychological freedoms.

(7) As many informed citizens already speculate, what future mandates will sprout as a direct result of permitting these DNA extractions? This mandate, while appearing justified and logical on the surface, could be the milestone for a multitude of future DNA extraction policies mandated under other veils of power and control.

Conclusion:

Individual citizens must awaken to realize that a government that they will respect is minimal and non-intrusive. Humans continue to demonstrate their lack of intelligence advancement by mandating competition for survival resources. When humans gain enough wisdom to share all essential resources at zero cost or compensation, then there will be no need to visit and revisit these types of invasive and demeaning policies.

Individuals must constantly contemplate their future leadership structures and selection methods to determine if such appointed leadership entities truly have the positive development of all citizens as their highest goal and ideal.

In this modern era when leadership goodwill cannot be presumed, citizens must raise their level of policy analysis to first consider exactly how laws can be designed or redesigned against them in the short-term or the long-term. It’s one good initial defense to protect against hidden obstacles to true freedom.
